Social environment and responsibility

We have chosen everything with much love for the detail and craftsmanship. The bedlinen is 100% Pima cotton and made in Mexico. All bedding is anti-allergic. With sustainability in mind, we have invested in well-made products of good quality in terms of design and materials and avoid, wherever possible, using of single use plastic.

Water

Water is a rare source in Zipolite. During six months of the year, we do not have any rain. So please help us to save water.

Rainwater is collected from all roofs and stored in cisterns under the houses.

We have installed a complex water treatment system that filters the water and sterilizes it by using UV light. Like this, 100% of all germs and viruses are eliminated but the natural mineralization is retained. Therefore, all tap water is drinkable. Water samples are taken regularly to confirm drinkability. We also offer Reverse Osmosis filtered water for free at the pool kitchen and in bottles in the private rooms.

Wastewater

We have a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant. Manufactured in Mexico, the “TIM AT” plant has been certified by European institutions and all the TIM treatment plants have been evaluated and compared with 67 other systems by the California Davis University, obtaining the best “A” rating in all categories.

The cleaned and treated water is used to irrigate our gardens.

Waste

We separate all our garbage and bring it to a dedicated recycling station. Please help us and use the assigned containers for your waste.

If you travel from abroad, you can also help us to take problematic waste (medicine, batteries, sunscreen bottles) back home where a professional recycling is guaranteed. A lot of garbage in Mexico still goes into landfills.

Electricity

El Cuayacan and Casa Cuixe have solar plants on their roofs which produce enough electricity to cover our needs. So, we are Co2 neutral as long as we do not exaggerate the use of electricity. So please turn of your AC when you leave your room.

Vegetation

We have kept as much natural vegetation as possible during the building process and after the devastating Hurricane Agatha in 2022 we planted more than 60 new trees on the premises. Natural vegetation gives shade and reduces the use of AC and the need to water the plants.

All natural

We produce our own compost. All compost from kitchens and organic waste from the land is collected to produce our own compost which we use to plant new trees or use as a fertilizer.

Laundry

All laundry is washed with biodegradable detergents. Hot water for the laundry is produced with solar energy. Make your own choice and change the towel when you feel like it. Place the used towels in the designated basket in your bathroom.
